About Sound Healer
Laura Cerrano
Laura’s introduction to the healing arts began at age 12 alongside her mother and Feng Shui master/mentor, Carole Provenzale, where they established Feng Shui Manhattan, Inc. in 1997. In 2011, Laura experienced her first Drum Circle, which inspired her to attend West African Drum Classes for a few years with Richie Guerriero in NY. Laura became a certified sound healer in 2018 through The Center for Advancement of Therapeutic Arts, training with Katie Down, Peter Blum, Joseph Schmidlin, and Michael Jay. After graduating, Laura began facilitating traditional and interactive sound healing events for public and private venues.
Laura is a Certified Rhythm2Recovery facilitator who provides engaging group rhythmic musical activities to support social and emotional development. She’s also studied with the International non-profit Music for People® facilitator and leadership program, where she has integrated social musical improvisation techniques into her drum circles and sound healing events to support the health and well-being of those in attendance. Laura provides sound healing services for private and public gatherings.
Sound Healing is an ancient practice that offers healing through the power of healing vibrational sound for individuals and groups. Clients enjoy a rich tapestry of sounds from Tibetan singing bowls, crystal singing bowls, gongs, gentle rhythmic drumming, tuning forks, and various other soothing instruments. Sound healing provides a unique and immersive experience that can help release tension and stress, allowing those experiencing it to feel more balanced, harmonious and at peace.
What is Sound Healing?
Frequently Asked Questions
-
Answer: Yes!
Practitioners tend to use these words interchangeably. Sound Bath, Sound Healing, and Sound Meditation sessions are all designed with a clear intention to provide an experience that soothes, resets, and nourishes the nervous system.
Notable instruments commonly used during these experiences include gongs, singing bowls (metal/cyrstal), chimes, shurti box (harmonic), string instruments, vocal toning, frame drums, ocean drum, rain stick, and much more!
-
Answer: it’s optional
Not everyone enjoys the sensation of sound healing instruments on their body during a session.
However, if the client and/or group requests that approach and is open to that experience of sound healing tools being gently placed on the body, that request can be accommodated as appropriate.
-
Answer: No
It is not advised to play any instrument during a sound healing, sound bath, or sound meditation experience extremely loudly for a sustained period of time because that can be very disruptive to the nervous system.
The intention (focus) of the sound healer is to help your body transition from stressed beta waves to slower alpha and theta waves, which promote deep relaxation by gently activating the vagus nerve.
This is not to say no sound healing events can never have loud instruments. What it is saying is, if the facilitator is choosing to play loud, it would be wise for them to be very intentional about why they are choosing to play certain instruments a bit louder, but again, not to sustain that loudness, as this can initiate the beta wave (fight or flight) feeling. In short, it is always a good protocol to inform participants about what to expect during a sound healing event and how it could affect the body, mind, and emotions.
